Hungarian authorities can introduce a home quarantine monitoring software
According to a decree published in the Hungarian Official Gazette on Monday, Hungarian authorities can use an electronic software to check people’s compliance with the compulsory home quarantine.
This software will collect data about adults who are placed in quarantine, including their
- movement,
- portrait
- and health data, Index reported.
The use of this software will work on a voluntary basis, but those who consent to the utilisation of their data will be obliged to install the application on their phone. Failing to fulfil this obligation is an act of infringement, and it can also imply a rather high fine ranging from 3,000 and 300,000 forints.

The collection and use of data should not violate a person’s privacy, and he or she should not be unduly disturbed between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. If the authorities notice the violation of home quarantine, they can go out to verify the person’s location.
After the end of the home quarantine, the software can be deleted, but the data will be retained for 60 days. If someone refuses to install the software, the police will go out more often to ensure that there is no violation of home quarantine rules. The software will also send the person’s portrait to the police, who can compare it with the photo in the official register to verify the downloader’s identity.
If a non-Hungarian citizen attempts to break the rules of home quarantine, he or she will be expelled from Hungary.
According to the latest data, a total of 10,459 home quarantines were ordered by the authorities in Hungary.
